AUTOHELM CLK W209

Mercedes W209 CLK

C240 avantgarde 2002

Purchased in May 2016, 75K miles with the standard wheels in black. New TOYOs were promptly bought and fitted. On closer inspection a front spring was broken, so a decision was made to replace all shocks with Bistein and the springs with Eibachs, kit for less than £700. Arms and bushes are still good.Full service; all fluids, all filters, plugs, aux belt, grease and checks. I have had the fluids and filters changed three times to date in my ownership. OCD I know.
New battery March 2019

I replaced the grille, headlights, fogs and rear lights with a complete DEPO set. By adding LED converters to the rear and using Phillips BlueVision halogens at the front I have managed to avoid canbus errors. A light window tint was also applied all around

The steering wheel was remodelled, AMG pedals added and the upgraded center console bits installed. The gear knob was exchanged for an item from a C204 and the clock face was modified from a canabalised AMG unit.

CLK went for a replacement air-con condenser/radiator. On removal of the old one, the air-con pipe from compressor to rad was badly corroded. Another was ordered and awaiting fitting. Pipe arrived and was fitted with a re-gas. Now the air-con is back and icy cold!

SCRAMBLER BY AUTOHELM

DUCATI Scrambler

ICON 2015

803cc

ABS

I paid £5000 for this bike in April 2018. It was originally yellow

Hungering for a retro style new bike I found plenty of choice. I really wanted a Triumph scrambler but discovered that theives would choose it over the DUCATI. When I first saw the Scrambler I could only imagine it in silver with black. On acquiring mine, I set to work on some subtle mods before spraying it glitter silver

Most of my riding is on London roads and traffic, so I decided to to add some protection; MOTEC hand guards, R&G protectors and GIVI crash bars.My two critisisms are the harsh suspension and wide handlebars. I regularly bounce off my seat and keeping up with superbikes when filtering is perilous

The rear lights have been replaced with an intergrated unit and the front turn signals were changed to a round LED type, better matching the headlight shape

I have obsessively changed the Shell FS oil every 3 months with filter £35 tops. I found it easier to buy the correct filter removal tool since I’d be doing so many oil changes annually. I can’t help myself. A new MOTOBAT battery was fitted September 2018. Mine hated Winter.
